Brand new? Looking to dip your toes in cold exposure? This is the class for you — aimed at beginners, our workshops provide space for individualized attention + the coaching needed to successfully complete your first ice bath.

Ice Cold Workshop

What to Expect:

  • Ice Cold’s original offering began as a way to teach first-time plungers the ins + outs of taking an ice bath.

After reviewing our approach + some basics about how the cold interacts with our bodies, minds + nervous systems — your coach will take you through a breath work practice to prepare you for the ice.

  • Classes are capped at 20 people.

When it comes time for the ice, you’ll be paired up with a partner + your coach will guide you two through the exposure.

  • Before we head out to the tubs, we’ll gather inside + connect with our breath.

The breath is the only thing you have in the ice (besides your coach of course), so it’s imperative that we get out of our heads + drop into our bodies before we take the plunge.

The guided breath work + sound healing experience lasts between 20-30 minutes. Mats are provided.

  • Heading outside to the tubs, you’ll start by watching a few experienced plungers — giving your subconscious mind the confidence it needs to see that you too, can do what they did.

You and your partner — a friend (new or old), will choose a song to set the tone for your experience.

You two will review the Ice Cold Protocol + receive guidance as you enter the tub + begin to regulate your breath.

How to Prepare:

  • Having some experience with the sensations of cold can be helpful (but certainly isn’t required). If you’d like to get a jump-start, follow along with our Cold Shower Protocol.

*Cold showers are often found to be more difficult than ice baths, so if you can do that for 30-60 seconds, you’ll likely be fine in the ice.

  • You’ll need something to plunge in — some people like to wear bathing suits + others like to dip in tight-fitting activewear, up to you!

    A towel is a must!

Flip flops or slides are nice to wear on the terrace, but are not required.

And you’ll want to have a comfy outfit to change into for your journey home.

It’s nice to have separate bag to put your wet swim/clothes into once you change.

We have mats! No need to lug yours.

*Note: There are no showers on-site, but we have large changing rooms.

  • We’re located on the 5th Floor of the Dime Residences — 275 S 5th Street, Brooklyn, NY 11211

Upon checking in at the front desk, you’ll head up the elevators to the 5th floor. Make a right out of the elevators + head down the hallway to the lounge on the right, across from the basketball court. We’ll meet in here + your coach will check you in.

If you’re riding your bike over, feel free to bring it up to the 5th floor + we’ll find somewhere safe to store it for you.

  • You did it!

You’ll be quite hungry, so plan to have a nourishing meal within 1 hour of completing your plunge.

Hot shower or not to hot shower? It’s up to how you feel + what your goals are. If you find yourself craving the warmth — go for it. Taking a hot shower is not going to negate the benefits, but you will miss out on the calorie (namely fat) burn that allowing your body to heat up on its own, will provide. With experience, you’ll be able to discern the times when you need a hot shower vs. don’t.

Post-ice euphoira is a lovely state to be in — we recommend you take the opportunity to connect, with yourself or others. Journaling, meditating, taking a walk or having a conversation are all great ways to reconnect.

We recommend staying away from work/screens for a bit if possible. If you find yourself on Tiktok, you’ll likely scroll for 4 hours, though it’ll feel like 5 minutes.

Our best advice — listen to your body!
